Today’s connected world relies on a seamless mesh of industrial applications running
smart embedded computer systems. Information kiosks, increasingly sophisticated
signage, traffic signals, ATMs, shop floor and factory machines, and even gas pumps
have become indispensable parts of modern life and we count on them to function
reliably and flawlessly in vast temperature and humidity variations, vibration, dust,
electrostatic discharge, or even corrosive and explosive environments. Commercial
grade computer boards are not designed for these conditions. They will fail sooner or
later, or they won't work at all.
