DPX-Series Platforms Offer High-Level Multimedia Performance for VLT/ClassII Machines

Description

Although somewhat less strictly regulated than electronic gaming machines for the casino and Class III markets, gaming machines for Class II/VLT are increasingly employing similar levels of computer performance. Features such as two- and three-screen cabinets as well as 3D graphics and attractive multimedia effects are becoming common in Class II and VLT machines. Advantech-Innocore’s DPX range of products is in use in many such machines around the world, providing the high level of multimedia performance required as well as all the I/Os and COMs on a single platform.

The Czech Republic has a small but dynamic market for VLT games across the country. In 2007 when new laws redefined the market, an enterprising new company was quick to grasp the opportunity to design and build up-to-date VLT products to satisfy the new market.

Solution
The customer chose the DPX-112 because of its good performance, but more importantly the high level of integration. One board, the DPX-112 included all the features needed for the game machine without extra boards or sub-systems. This simplified the overall design greatly and allowed for a very quick design cycle and a fast time to market.

A JAMMA interface was also developed to allow the customer to provide DPX-112 upgrade kits for existing cabinets and therefore rapidly accelerate the sales of the customers’ exciting new game titles.

A couple of years later the customer was able to take advantage of Advantech-Innocore’s backwards compatibility and move easily to the DPX-S410. The S410 was a straight drop-in replacement for the DPX-112, meaning that no new cabinet or harnessing work was needed. Furthermore the software driver
API also provided backwards compatibility. This meant that the games that the customer haddeveloped for the DPX-112 were very easily ported to run on the DPX-S410. So with very little engineering effort the customer was able to re-energize his product lineup, add new features to take advantage of the higher performance, and extend the product’s life for another five years.
